This app is a concierge for Indian classical music. It is the first, and one of its kind in what it aims to do - bring audiences to the auditorium, and help them engage more with the music.
There are two functions in this app - a worldwide concert listings database, and a library of raga appreciation videos. To the audience of classical music, this app shows when/where concerts are happening in their city, and for those who haven’t had the good fortune of music education, it shows how to appreciate and engage with different ragas at a deeper level.
A person in the concert hall who understands the basics of the raga being presented is engaged throughout the concert and enjoys the experience to a much greater extent than another person who has no understanding of the raga and the tala. Unseasoned listeners are commonly lost through large parts of the concert. Many dont know what to look for. The app is designed to improve this situation. It contains a library of short lessons on a number of commonly heard ragas and talas, designed by renowned professional musicians. A lesson on a raga or tala explains the most important key patterns to look out for when listening to the performance of that raga or tala. Lessons are provided for beginner audiences with no background in classical music, as well as for expert audiences. They are designed to be short enough, so that one may listen to a lesson in 10 minutes before a concert begins or during the interval. We hope that by providing short music lessons and making concert listings easily available on their phones, we will help the audience enjoy the music more, and consequently attend more concerts.
